About Us

CollegeTown Construction is focused on providing quality construction management and general contracting for student housing developments. Formed as a division of The Capstone Companies in January of 2008, CollegeTown incorporates construction management with general contractor expertise to create greater flexibility in its project delivery, better quality control, and real time access to pricing.

CollegeTown Construction is located in Birmingham, Alabama, with the majority of the key personnel having extensive experience over the past 10 years in the management of on-campus construction projects for Capstone Development Corp.

Joe Harrison, President of CollegeTown Construction is the former Executive Vice President of Construction Management for Capstone Development. Receiving his degree in Building Construction from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Joe has held a general contractor's license since 1981 and since that time has managed a variety of residential and commercial construction projects.

Daniel Bethers, a Project Manager for CollegeTown Construction, has more than 13 years of experience in the construction industry. Dan oversees on/off campus construction projects for CollegeTown Construction, by finding subcontractors, budgeting, administering contracts, scheduling the jobs and ensuring the quality control of his projects. Dan works closely with the development team and the onsite construction trades/ building officials to ensure that CollegeTown delivers the desired quality facilities on time and with in budget.

Since 1998 the group has managed the construction of over 30,000 beds on over 50 campuses nationwide, such as Johns Hopkins University, Xavier University, Marshall University, Hillsdale University, University of Maryland-College Park, Towson University, and University of Missouri-Kansas City. For all of these projects, the key personnel at CollegeTown have been involved from project conception through move-in, occupancy and warranty follow-up. As a result, our employees are used to working closely with the design team to streamline the design process and provide frequent feedback to the design team on constructability, cost, schedule and details.

Due to the fact that Capstone On-Campus Management also manage on-campus student housing communities, CollegeTown is acutely aware of the special operational needs for successful management and can address such issues during the design process. In addition CTC receives ongoing feedback from Capstone On-Campus in regards to which materials or systems work better than others. CollegeTown understands the critical nature of on time completion of student housing facilities and the need for the facilities to be 100% complete at move-in.

We are accustomed to working with housing management months ahead of student move-in to insure a smooth project start-up for management. In addition we keep personnel onsite both to assist during move-in and at least three months following move-in to insure any issues are resolved quickly and with minimal disruption to staff and students. Our personnel have been onsite during student move-in on each and every project so we understand the expectations of the University, parents and students. In addition the CollegeTown Construction Manager will remain responsible for maintaining communication with your University personnel throughout the warranty period to address any warranty in a timely manner.

CollegeTown Construction understands the importance of a construction schedule and what it takes to get the job done right the first time. CollegeTown holds weekly scheduling meetings where we not only review progress to date, but the reasons for any missed deadlines and how to avoid such in the future. CollegeTown is focused on delivering a quality product on time and within budget.
